The 990 is public information and is published on the internet by the IRS, the Foundation Center, Guidestar, and others. Your organization will be judged by this information. Therefore it is vital that you understand nonprofit accounting.

The Johns Hopkins Center for Civil Society Studies’ Nonprofit Economic Data project (NED) reports that America’s nonprofit sector employs the third largest workforce of any of the 18 industries into which statistical authorities divide the American economy. They believe that making these data available will positively impact how nonprofits are perceived, and therefore on the support they can obtain for their important work.
