According to Giving USA, in 2017 70% of charitable dollars came from giving by individuals. Giving by foundations and corporations together only equaled 21%, with the remaining 9% coming from bequests. Obviously marketing and special events that bring you to the attention of donors is crucial to the success of any nonprofit.

Nonprofits: America’s Third Largest Workforce

The Johns Hopkins Center for Civil Society Studies’ Nonprofit Economic Data project (NED) reports that America’s nonprofit sector employs the third largest workforce of any of the 18 industries into which statistical authorities divide the American economy. They believe that making these data available will positively impact how nonprofits are perceived, and therefore on the support they can obtain for their important work.
