National Endowment for Democracy Grants Program
NED seeks proposals for projects that advance democratic goals and strengthen democratic institutions. Grants of up to $50,000 over twelve will be awarded in support of nonpartisan programs that seek to promote and defend human rights and the rule of law, support freedom of information and independent media, and promote accountability and transparency. To be eligible, applicants must be nongovernmental organizations, including civic organizations, associations, independent media, and other similar groups. Applications are encouraged from organizations working in diverse environments, including newly established democracies, semi-authoritarian countries, highly repressive societies, and countries undergoing democratic transition.

American Academy of Periodontology Foundation Finley Visiting Scholar Education Grants
The program awards grants of up to $2,000 to accredited U.S. periodontal programs to help offset costs associated with honoraria, travel, promotion, and seminars involving speakers in periodontology. The grants must be matched by funds from the department or institution. Although the speakers are expected to spend the majority of their time with the periodontics department – both students and faculty – the grant requires that the speaker present a formal program to the faculty and students of the institution on a subject of interest to the entire dental institution.  To be eligible, applicants must be an accredited U.S. periodontal program.

Parkinson’s Foundation-PSG Mentored Clinical Research Award
The grant supports new investigators for a one-year project in patient-oriented research in Parkinson s or other parkinsonian disorders under the mentorship of an experienced investigator. Funding an investigator with the potential to become an independent researcher is the award goal. An award of $50,000 for the current application period is anticipated.  Eligible applicants should be clinicians and scientists who are within five years of having completed formal training. Fellows may apply. If during formal training unusual circumstances occur delaying completion, “time out” periods will be allowed. Please explain these in the application cover letter. Applicants must name a mentor with extensive research experience. Either the applicant or the mentor must be a member of the Parkinson Study Group. The applicant may have co-mentors.

Parkinson’s Foundation Postdoctoral Fellowships for Basic Scientists
Program offers two-year fellowships for young scientists, fresh from their Ph.D. training, to study at major research institutions. This consists of $45,000 annually (to be used as salary) as well as a $5,000 annual research allowance to be used at the Fellow’s discretion, with sponsor/mentor approval, to pay for items such as books, training courses, travel costs (up to $2,000) or a computer. There is no provision for the deduction of postdoctoral taxes, institutional overhead or fees. We may approve $3,000 of the research allowance to defray the health insurance costs paid by the Fellow if the Fellow sends a written request. Eligibility applicants must be within five years of receiving his or her Ph.D. at the time the award starts, and must name an individual who will serve as his or her research mentor and supervisor. This program is open to both national and international applicants. If awarded, a Postdoctoral Fellow must commit 90 percent of his or her effort to the Parkinson’s Foundation-funded project. Award Ceiling: $100,000 over two years. Letter of Intent Due: November 27, 2017.

ASTRO Minority Summer Fellowship Award
The annual program is designed to introduce medical students from backgrounds that are underrepresented in medicine to the discipline of radiation oncology early in their medical education. Although medical students in all years are encouraged to apply, preference will be given to first- and second-year students. In an effort to promote radiation oncology as a career choice, the fellowship will expose medical students to clinical, basic, and translational research questions in radiation oncology. The fellowship provides each student with a $4,500 package that includes a $3,500 stipend for the eight-week training program and $1,000 toward the cost of travel to the 2019 annual meeting. To be eligible, applicants must be enrolled in a United States medical school and be able to identify a mentor with a successful record of research productivity. The mentor should be an ASTRO member. Research must be undertaken at a North American institution during the summer of 2018.

American Academy of Periodontology SUNSTAR Innovation Grant Program
A $30,000 grant will be awarded in support of research focused on identifying novel and innovative evidence-based periodontal treatment approaches to patient care. Projects must address treatments and research that serves to alleviate the high burden of periodontitis on the U.S. population; interdisciplinary team approaches to periodontal disease focused on preserving the patient s natural dentition, particularly among patients at risk; and/or novel approaches to achieving patient compliance with oral hygiene instruction/treatment plans using modern, evidence-based diagnostics and modern patient education tools during and between dental visits. To be eligible, applicants must be an AAP member in good standing.

American Hair Research Society Mentorship Grant Program
Grants of up to $3,000 will be awarded to scientists-in-training, dermatology or pathology residents, dermatopathology fellows, or junior faculty to enable study with a hair research mentor. The purpose of the program is to enable young physicians and scientists to acquire additional academic or research skills that can further their careers as leaders in hair research. To be eligible, both the applicant and the mentor must be a North American Hair Research Society members.

U.S. Department of Commerce NOAA Environmental Literacy Grants: Supporting the education of K-12 students and the public for community resilience
The goal is to support the education of K-12 students and the public so they are knowledgeable of the ways in which their community can become more resilient to extreme weather events and/or other environmental hazards, and become involved in achieving that resilience.  Education projects focused on resilience enable and empower community members, including children and youth, to protect themselves and their communities from these hazards. Projects should build the environmental literacy necessary for communities to become more resilient to extreme weather and other environmental hazards they face. Eligible applicants are limited to institutions of higher education; other nonprofits, including informal education institutions such as museums, zoos, and aquariums; K-12 public and independent schools and school systems; and state, local and Indian tribal governments in the U.S. Federal agencies, for-profit organizations, foreign institutions, and individuals are not eligible to apply. Proposed projects must be between 2 and 5 years in duration and have total federal requests of $250,000 to $500,000 for all years of the project.

U.S. Department of Health and Human Services R40 Maternal and Child Health Field-Initiated Innovative Research Studies (FIRST) Program
The purpose of the MCH FIRST Program grant is to advance the health and wellbeing of MCH populations by supporting innovative, applied, and translational intervention research studies on critical issues affecting MCH populations. For the purpose of this NOFO, an “intervention” is defined to include behavioral, social, or structural / health systems approaches, as well as combination applied clinico-medical and behavioral, social, or structural / health system approaches that contribute to the prevention of diseases or improvement of health (including clinical) outcomes for mothers, children and families at a population level. Only public or non-profit institutions of higher learning and public or private non-profit agencies engaged in research or in programs relating to maternal and child health and/or services for children with special health care needs are eligible to apply.

U.S. Department of Transportation Youth Service and Conservation Corps Workforce Development
The purpose of this proposed cooperative agreement is to assist the recipient in encouraging States and regional transportation planning agencies to enter into contracts and cooperative agreements with qualified youth service or conservation corps to perform appropriate projects eligible under the Federal-aid highway program, and to expand youth workforce development opportunities while strengthening transportation career pathways. National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine Ford Foundation Fellowship Program

The program will award approximately twenty-four postdoctoral fellowships providing a year of support for individuals engaged in postdoctoral study after the attainment of the doctor of philosophy (PhD) or doctor of science (ScD) degree. Fellowships will be awarded to individuals who have demonstrated superior academic achievement, are committed to a career in teaching and research at the college or university level, show promise of future achievement as scholars and teachers, and are well prepared to use diversity as a resource for enriching the education of all students. Fellowships, which include a $45,000 stipend, will be awarded for study in the following major disciplines and related interdisciplinary fields: American studies, anthropology, archaeology, art and theater history, astronomy, chemistry, communications, computer science, cultural studies, earth sciences, economics, education, engineering, ethnic studies, ethnomusicology, geography, history, international relations, language, life sciences, linguistics, literature, mathematics, performance study, philosophy, physics, political science, psychology, religious studies, sociology, urban planning, and women s studies. Also eligible are interdisciplinary programs. Research-based fields of education are eligible if the major field of study is listed above and is used to describe the PhD or ScD program of the applicant (e.g., sociology of education, anthropology and education).

U.S. Department of Commerce Fiscal Year 2018 NMFS-Sea Grant Fellowships in Population and Ecosystem Dynamics

The Fellowship Program expects to award at least three new Ph.D. Fellowships in 2018 to students who are interested in careers related to marine ecosystem and population dynamics, with a focus on modeling and managing systems of living marine resources. The emphasis will be on the development and implementation of quantitative methods for assessing marine ecosystems, for assessing the status of fish, invertebrate, and other targeted species stocks and for assessing the status of marine mammals, seabirds, and other protected species. Fellows will work on thesis problems of public interest and relevance to National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS) under the guidance of NMFS mentors at participating NMFS Science Centers or Offices. Prospective Fellows must be United States citizens. Award Ceiling: $46,000.

U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Ryan White HIV/AIDS Program Part F Dental Reimbursement Program

This notice solicits applications to improve access to oral health care services for low income, uninsured, and underserved people living with HIV (PLWH) and to support related education and training for the delivery of dental care to PLWH.  The DRP defrays a portion of unreimbursed dental care costs for low income, uninsured, and underserved PLWH incurred by accredited dental or dental hygiene education programs recognized by the Commission on Dental Accreditation. This funding opportunity is open to accredited dental education institutions eligible to receive RWHAP Part F funding under section 2692(b)(1)(B) of the Public Health Service (PHS) Act.  This program will reimburse certain costs incurred by eligible entities that have provided uncompensated or partially uncompensated oral health care to PLWH from July 1, 2016 through June 30, 2017. Applicants are limited to accredited dental schools and other accredited dental education programs, such as dental hygiene programs or those sponsored by a school of dentistry, a hospital, or a public or private institution that offers postdoctoral training in the specialties of dentistry, advanced education in general dentistry, or a dental general practice residency.

Residents and business owners in designated areas who sustained damage due to Hurricane Irma should apply for assistance by registering online. Assistance can include grants for temporary housing and home repairs, low-cost loans to cover uninsured property losses and other programs to help individuals and business owners recover from the effects of the disaster. U.S. Department of Justice OVW Fiscal Year 2018 Justice for Families Program Solicitation
Grants seek to improve the response of all aspects of the civil and criminal justice system to families with a history of sexual assault, domestic violence, dating violence, and stalking, or in cases involving allegations of child sexual abuse. The program supports the following activities for improving the capacity of communities and courts to respond to impacted families: court-based and court-related programs; supervised visitation and safe exchange by and between parents; training and technical assistance for people who work with families in the court system; civil legal services; provision of resources in juvenile court matters; and development or promotion of legislation, model codes, policies, and best practices. States, units of local government, courts (including juvenile courts), Indian tribal governments, nonprofit organizations, legal services providers, and victim service providers. Award Ceiling: $700,000.

Sidney Hill Foundation 2018 Hillman Prizes
This annual program honors investigative journalism and commentary in the public interest. Winners exemplify sound news judgment, resourcefulness and courage in reporting, skilled storytelling, and social impact. The 2018 prizes will be awarded for work produced, published, broadcast, or exhibited in 2017. Categories include books (nonfiction); newspaper reporting (print or online); magazine reporting (print or online); broadcast journalism (video or radio programs longer than twenty minutes, and documentary film); Web journalism (online multimedia reporting by an individual or an institution with a substantial visual component as well as text); and opinion journalism (commentary and analysis in any medium). Winners will be announced in April 2018. Each winner will receive a $5,000 prize and a certificate at the foundation’s awards ceremony and cocktail reception to be held May 8, 2018, in New York City. Travel expenses will be provided. The contest is open to journalists and subjects worldwide, although work must have been published in the United States.

Religion Communicators Council Wilbur Awards
The council is accepting entries from secular communicators for its annual Wilbur Award, which recognizes outstanding coverage and representation of faith and religion in the media. The prize is designed to honor excellence by individuals in secular media – print and online journalism, book publishing, broadcasting, and motion pictures – in communicating religious issues, positive values, and themes. Entries must have been produced and published in 2017. Winners will receive a handcrafted stained-glass trophy and national recognition for their work.

Wayne Barrett Investigative Fund

The fund is accepting applications to support ambitious reporting projects focused on politics and corruption in New York City and nationally. Projects that build on Barrett’s previous reporting are particularly encouraged. The fund is designed to enable talented journalists working in print, digital, or broadcast to produce deeply reported investigative projects with strong editorial guidance and support. Awards for each investigative project will range between $5,000 and $15,000, with the aim of underwriting travel, document fees, and compensation for reporting time, as needed.

U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service 2018 National Fish Habitat Action Plan
The Fish and Wildlife Management Assistance Program provides technical and financial assistance to other federal agencies, states, local governments, Native American tribes, non-governmental organizations, citizen groups, and landowners for the conservation and management of fish and wildlife resources. This includes minimizing the establishment, spread, and impact of aquatic invasive species. Specifically, aquatic habitat conservation projects under this program must protect, restore, and enhance fish and aquatic habitats, as outlined in the National Fish Habitat Action Plan (Action Plan). Projects under this program enhance recreational fishing opportunities for American sportsman and women by improving aquatic habitat that increases fish and aquatic populations. Funded projects may be carried out by Fish Habitat Partnerships (FHPs) recognized FHPs. Eligibility is unrestricted. Applications are accepted on a rolling basis.

U.S. Department of Commerce National Estuarine Research Reserve System (NERRS) Land Acquisition and Construction Program for Fiscal Year 2018
The NERRS consists of estuarine areas of the U.S. and its territories designated and managed for research and educational purposes. Each Reserve within the system is chosen to represent a different bio-geographic region and to include a variety of ecosystem types in accordance with the classification scheme of the national program as specified in 15 CFR Part 921. NOAA seeks to strengthen protection of key land and water areas, enhance long-term protection of Reserve areas for research and education, and provide for facility and exhibit construction that meet the highest sustainable design standards possible. $1.7 million in FY 2018 will be available to designated lead Reserve agencies or universities in coastal states for approximately 1-10 construction and acquisition projects, and expected to range from approximately $20,000 to $800,000 per project and with project periods typically covering 12-36 months, depending on the availability of funds. National Fish and Wildlife Foundation Atlantic Flyway Shorebird Program 2018 Request for Proposals

NFWF is seeking proposals that address one or more of these strategies along the Atlantic Flyway. Current geographic priorities include important breeding, staging and wintering areas along the eastern Gulf of Mexico and the U.S. Atlantic coast, with a focus on coastal areas in Delaware Bay, Cape Fear and the Outer Banks of North Carolina, Georgia s coastal islands and estuaries, and the St John s River and coastal areas of northeastern Florida. In 2018, the program seeks projects that integrate green and grey infrastructure needs at important sites along the flyway; restore wet and dry sand habitats for shorebirds along the Atlantic coast lost to incompatible coastal engineering practices; reduce the impact of predation and human disturbance on populations of breeding shorebirds along the U.S. Atlantic coast; and/or fill information gaps.  Eligible applicants include nonprofit 501(c)(3) organizations, state government agencies, local governments, municipal governments, Indian tribes, educational institutions, businesses, unincorporated individuals, international organizations. The majority of awards under this program will range between $50,000 and $200,000.

U.S. Department of Commerce Fiscal Year 2018 NMFS-Sea Grant Fellowships in Population and Ecosystem Dynamics

The Fellowship Program expects to award at least three new Ph.D. Fellowships in 2018 to students who are interested in careers related to marine ecosystem and population dynamics, with a focus on modeling and managing systems of living marine resources. The emphasis will be on the development and implementation of quantitative methods for assessing marine ecosystems, for assessing the status of fish, invertebrate, and other targeted species stocks and for assessing the status of marine mammals, seabirds, and other protected species. Fellows will work on thesis problems of public interest and relevance to National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS) under the guidance of NMFS mentors at participating NMFS Science Centers or Offices. Prospective Fellows must be United States citizens. Award Ceiling: $46,000.

U.S. Department of Transportation Youth Service and Conservation Corps Workforce Development
The purpose of this proposed cooperative agreement is to assist the recipient in encouraging States and regional transportation planning agencies to enter into contracts and cooperative agreements with qualified youth service or conservation corps to perform appropriate projects eligible under the Federal-aid highway program, and to expand youth workforce development opportunities while strengthening transportation career pathways. This competition is open to government agencies, institutions of higher learning, or nonprofit organizations.  Award Ceiling: $300,000.
