President Obama and the Arts

"WZ New? FANO Newsletter Image"

The president’s proposed Arts Platform aims to reinvest in arts education; support increased funding for the National Endowment for the Arts;

· promote cultural diplomacy;

· attract foreign talent;

· provide health care to artists

· ensure tax fairness for artists,

 One can sense a shift toward a new creative global economy.  Americans for the Arts has developed a nine point policy recommendation in support of this platform and calls on President Obama and Congress to support their proposals in their consideration of an economic recovery package.

Facility Planning & Financing Program

In tough economic times, the demand for nonprofit services is continually on the rise – often requiring expansion of facilities to meet ongoing demands. CBO Financial, Inc., in partnership with FANO, has developed a Facility Planning and Financing program that helps nonprofits with planning for facility expansion and also learning of financing avenues that may be available to agencies.

Two internet workshops (webinars)are offered, one on Facility Planning & Financing 101, on February 11, 2009 and Financing A Project Utilizing New Markets Tax Credits. Contact FANO for more information.

The Mayor’s Community and Religious Charities Advisory Committee

FANO’s president Marina Pavlov, along with Reverend Jorge Valle, will be speaking before the Mayor of Hialeah’s Community and Religious Charities Advisory Committee on Monday, January 26 at 9:30am at 501 Palm Avenue in Hialeah. To RSVP, contact Pastor Julio Perez at 786.338.3041.

Contact Your Legislators Now!

Did you know that Florida nonprofits are seeing a minimum cut of 5% funding from the state? This excludes any cut in funding from the federal level or the decreases from private individuals because of the economic downturn.  Now more than ever it is important for you to be in contact with your state and federal legislators to let them know how important funding is to your organizations activities.  Visit our FANO’s website for resources on how to reach your representatives.

 Arts & Americans

Americans for the Arts, has shown leadership in the arts domain, with spear-heading various efforts to collaborate and merge with other national organiza-tions, most recently the Business Com-mittee for the Arts, in order to create one strong national organization to boost arts advocacy from the private sector. Private-sector support for the arts from founda-tions, corporations, and individuals, represents a critical piece of arts funding in America. In these uncertain economic times, it is now more important than ever to invest in the arts.
