Meet Kim Cavendish – FANO Certification Faculty Member
Kim L. Cavendish is President/CEO of the Museum of Discovery and Science & Blockbuster® IMAX® Theater
Kim Cavendish served fourteen years as Executive Director of the Museum of Discovery and Science in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, leading it from a small children’s museum into a new, $32 million state-of-the-art science center and IMAX Theater. In 1995, she was appointed Executive Director/CEO of the Virginia Air & Space Center.In December 1999, she accepted the President/CEO position at the Orlando Science Center, a 200,000 square foot world-class science center with a 300 seat CineDome. In April 2002,she returned to Fort Lauderdale to accept Presidency of theMuseum of Discovery and Science and Blockbuster IMAX Theater.
The mission of the Museum of Discovery and Science is to provide experiential pathways to lifelong learning in science for children and adults through exhibits, programs and films.
Cavendish holds a B.A. degree from University of Florida and has also attended Duke University and George Washington University, as well as the Museum Management Program, University of Colorado. She also serves as a director on the board of the Association of Science-Technology Centers (ASTC), an organization of science centers and museums dedicated to furthering the public understanding of science among increasingly diverse audiences.
