Mid February 2023 News Research Opportunity

Another Hat to Wear: Research

The Florida Data Science for Social Good (FL-DSSG) is soliciting data analytics project proposals for its summer 2023 program. Nonprofits and other public sector organizations with informed decision-making and data analysis needs are invited to submit project proposals. Project proposals must describe a complex social problem and data sources relevant to the problem. The proposal submission deadline is March 3, 5 pm. Submit your proposals at  http://dssg.unf.edu/projectpartner.html.

The Florida Data Science for Social Good program, hosted at the University of North Florida, offers data analytics services to public sector organizations, including nonprofits and government agencies. Data analytics project proposals submitted by community organizations will be used for training aspiring data scientists admitted to a summer internship program. DSSG interns will work on the selected projects for 12 weeks during the summer semester at the UNF. The summer internship program will run from the first week of June to the third week of August 2023. More information about the FL-DSSG program and example projects can be found at http://dssg.unf.edu/.

Based on the proposals received, FL-DSSG program directors will shortlist community partners for follow-up interviews to gather additional information necessary to make final decisions on the summer program participation. A memorandum of understanding will be established between FL-DSSG and community partners after expectations on participation are finalized.

If you have any questions about the FL-DSSG program and project selection process, please contact Dr. Karthikeyan Umapathy (k.umapathy@unf.edu) and Dr. Dan Richard (drichard@unf.edu).
