When creating a fund-raising plan, consider in-kind donations, which may be more available than cash and quite valuable.
There are several things an organization can do to get the greatest value from an in-kind donation.
- Thank the donor.
- Tell other donors and future donors about the gift.
- Calculate the cumulative value of in-kind donations and announce it at the end of the year.
- Send out a press release or two.
- Define how much exposure you received as a result of the donation.
- Continue marketing to those new partners, they may be future sponsors.
Ask your accountant to include in-kind donations along with the value of volunteer hours donated in your financials. They will make your financial statement more robust and give a better indication of what your organization has accomplished.
