The Florida Association of Nonprofits is proud to announce award recipients of the Making Waves through Nonprofit Partnerships during the organization’s 35th anniversary of supporting, advocating for, and promoting nonprofits in Florida. The event will take place at 6:30 p.m. on November 16, 2024, at the statewide headquarters of the Florida Association of Nonprofits, located at 512 NE Third Ave, Fort Lauderdale, FL 33301.

Board Chairwoman Maria Hidalgo said about the gala,” We are so delighted with our selection of such excellent leaders from across the state that have honored the Florida Association of Nonprofits’ remarkable history of achievements and milestone by being part of the celebration and represents all nonprofits in the great state.” Award recipients have come together to celebrate the wide-ranging accomplishments of nonprofits throughout Florida and they include:

  • Arts & Culture: Xavier Cortada, Inductee of 2024 Florida Artist Hall of Fame
  • Disaster Relief: Dionne Polite, AARP Florida State Operations
  • Education: Dr. Marie Etienne, Miami Dade College and Florida Nurses Association
  • Healthcare: Nestor Plana and Josephina Carbonell, Independent Living Systems, Ward Towers
  • Homeless Prevention: Ron Book, Miami-Dade County Homeless Trust
  • Public Service: Senator Rene Garcia, Commissioner Dist. 13 Miami-Dade County, HOPE Mission Center
  • Safety: Barbara Sanchez, Crime Prevention Alliance of Florida

The Florida Association of Nonprofits is excited to announce the Master of Ceremonies (MC) of black-tie optional gala “People Helping People: Making Waves Through Nonprofit Partnerships,” a celebration of the organization’s 35th anniversary of supporting, advocating for, and promoting nonprofits in Florida at 6:30 p.m. on November 16, 2024, at the statewide headquarters of the Florida Association of Nonprofits, located at 512 NE Third Avenue, Fort Lauderdale, FL 33301.

“Felix Sama is a legend among DJs and has a vast knowledge of multiple forms of music so he can transition from the classics to today’s latest hits”, says Maria Hildago Chairman of the Florida Association of Nonprofits. “His musical genres include Dance, Top 40, Hip Hop, R&B, Latin, Disco and EDM sounds. He a bilingual Cuban American who is now a musical producer and has worked with some of the biggest names including Pitbull to Tito Puente Jr.”, she added.

With our theme in mind, Making Waves through Nonprofit Partnerships; we will present a excellence in Florida Partnership program to celebrate the accomplishments of nonprofits throughout Florida, from the arts, environment, human Services, education, health, public service, food security, homelessness prevention and more.”

“The evening will be fun too, begin with a lively reception featuring the music of steel drum band, the Sound Factory and singer Charlotte McKinnon and end with “Hora Loca” and Dancing under the chandelier that graces the entrance of our venue” said marina Pavlov-Marchner President CEO.

Board Chairwoman Maria Hidalgo elaborates on the gala's theme and purpose: "Making Waves Through Nonprofit Partnerships" celebrates the wide-ranging accomplishments of nonprofits throughout Florida, from the arts and environment to corporate responsibility, crime prevention, education, health advocacy, human services, public service, and homelessness prevention. During the event, the Nonprofit Partnership Awards will be presented to recipients with outstanding records of contribution to the nonprofit sector.

The 35th gala will spotlight the Florida Association of Nonprofits' remarkable history of achievements and milestones. Over the years, the organization has expanded its membership to include a diverse range of nonprofits while simultaneously developing programs and initiatives designed to support its members, including training sessions, networking opportunities, and access to grants and funding. The Association has also been a strong advocate for nonprofit causes at the legislative level. Today, the Florida Association of Nonprofits continues to focus on nonprofit capacity building development, organizational collaboration, and community engagement.

President Marina Pavlov highlights the significance of the 35th Anniversary Gala, stating that it "will be both entertaining and insightful." She adds, "The evening will begin with a festive reception featuring DJ Sama, Charlotte McKinnon and Sound Factory, a delicious array of hors d'oeuvres and beverages. And connect with fellow nonprofit leaders, community advocates, and supporters following the reception, a plated dinner showcasing local cuisine and dancing to the Music by world renowned DJ Felix Sama."
